Getting Custom Labels for Your Business: From Vision to Delivery

It's difficult to get noticed in today’s busy, digital age. Difficult, but not impossible. Creative branding through custom business labels is one way to help your brand stand out from the noisy crowd.

Think about it. How many times have you bought a product just because you liked the look of its label?

According to an IBIMA study, product packaging and product quality are directly related, in the eye of the consumer. The more sleek, creative, and eye-catching a product’s packaging is, the more likely a customer will be to put it in their cart.

Eye-catching, custom labels for your business can help you move more product and increase your customer base. At InkWise Label, our goal when working with you is just that — to help you sell more and help your business succeed.

At InkWise Label, we like to keep the label creation process simple and straightforward. We’ve put together a brief, step-by-step guide on how to get custom labels for your business — all the way from vision to delivery.

Step #1: Develop Your Vision

Business owners new to the custom label process might think that creating a complex label will be the most effective. But that’s not necessarily true. The goal of your label is to inform and convert the consumer. From a sales angle, the complex isn’t better. Simple labels are far more effective at converting customers.

The first step in creating a custom label for your business is to develop your vision. We’ll help you design an eye-catching, branded label that’s sleek and communicates your message effectively.

How will the label design look on your container? What message will the design communicate to the customer? Is it the right message for your target customer? These are all important considerations when developing your label design.

Designing a custom business label that fits your products’ different sizes and containers is a critical part of the process.

Step #2: Project Planning and Quoting

This is where you contact us to begin your project. If you’re unsure of what you need for your custom business label, we use this step in the process to help bring clarity to your vision and goals. If you don’t already know, we’ll help you figure out your label specifications, and produce a quote for your project.

We’ve worked with many companies and different brands and organizations. It’s rare to pin down the final design this early in the process. As we move through the ordering discussions, your final label will often change in size, print type, and quantity from the original quote.

Step #3: Design and Artwork

The InkWise Label process is engineered to make your life easier. Your business might be in cosmetics, CBD, or specialty foods. Our business is designing eye-catching labels that help you move more products. Chances are, you’re not an artist or graphic designer.

During this part of the custom business label process, you can send us press-ready artwork — if you have it. But if not, that’s okay. We can create press-ready artwork for you with our Label Design Services.

Next, you’ll get a PDF proof of your artwork that’ll need your stamp of approval before moving on. With the PDF proof, you’ll need to check the size, layouts, copy, and design element placement. If something isn’t right, you can submit new artwork with changes, or ask for revisions.

Below are some of the elements in the PDF Proof you’ll want to consider:

  • Branding elements such as colors and logos

  • Label size, shape, and placement

  • Barcode scannability and accuracy

Check out our FAQ page for more information on the design and artwork process.

Step #4: Proofing and Production

After PDF Proof approval, we’ll move your order into the production phase.

Specialty materials, cutting dies, and printing plates will be ordered if needed to create your one-of-a-kind design. Our standard turnaround times are five business days.

If you’ve ordered digitally printed labels, we’ll send you a free Press-Proof of the design so you can see exactly what your labels will look like in their final, printed form. This Press-Proof is printed on our actual production equipment, so you’ll be able to see the exact colors and test the material that will be used for your full print run.

If all looks good and you approve the Press-Proof, then we’ll move ahead with the full print run.

Step #5: Order Completion

Once the full print run is completed, we’ll ship your order. We use FedEx Ground as our standard shipping service. You can upgrade your shipping option for faster delivery if you choose.

After working closely with our team of label experts, and label printing craftsmen, you’re going to love your new custom business labels. If for some reason the order doesn’t match the proofs or the quality doesn’t meet expectations, we’ll fix it immediately. We want your custom business labels to be precisely what you're looking for to meet your business goals.
